Hospitality Careers-A World of Opportunities

The Hospitality Management Program at the College of Southern Idaho prepares Graduates for Hospitality Industry Success

The hospitality industry is experiencing dynamic growth. This expansion of hotels and restaurants throughout the world has increased the demand for qualified, knowledgeable employees who are ready to excel in the world of lodging, food service, tourism, and travel. The Hospitality Management Program at the College of Southern Idaho provides the perfect start for students looking for a competitive edge in the hospitality industry. We believe that the educational experience should include preparation and training for leadership roles and successful careers in the variety of career paths available in today’s rapidly growing and changing hospitality industry. The program includes a foundation of the basic philosophies and skills of the hospitality industry along with real world applications and “hands on” practices.

Among the most important attributes of the successful professional in the hospitality industry are customer service, effective communication, creativity, flexibility, the ability to get along with others, and a good work ethic. Our goals in the program are to develop students as critical thinkers, problem solvers, and team players.

The Hospitality Management Program at CSI uses materials from the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Association as well as the Manager First program from the National Restaurant Association. Students who successfully complete these courses earn globally recognized certificates from both associations, in addition to college credits applicable toward an Associates Degree.

CSI’s hospitality courses are part of the Business department. The hospitality industry provides a wonderful direction for students seeking a career focus for their area of interest. With more than 200 different job opportunities, the $103.6 billion hospitality industry has a career to fit every interest. Hotels and restaurants need sales and marketing professionals, accountants, engineers, human resource specialists, meeting planners, chefs, security directors, and managers for every service department from front office to housekeeping. CSI’s Hospitality Management Program works with students to develop an educational path that’s right for them. We also participate with Walt Disney World and Cactus Petes Casino and Resort for in-depth internship programs.
